The Leadership Models We Inherited Weren't Built for Our Whole Self Brilliance

What if the leadership frameworks we've been taught to follow were never designed to realize our potential fully?

Too many of us have built careers navigating systems that weren't created with our multicultural wisdom, our ways of knowing, or our lived experiences at the center. This disconnect creates a fragmented cultural identity, leaving us to question our intelligence rather than integrate the profound wisdom from our lived experiences.

We find ourselves asking for permission to be seen and heard, seeking validation to claim space, instead of leading from the integrated intelligence that is our birthright—the deep knowledge that emerges when we honour both our cultural wisdom and professional expertise.

This summer, we're continuing our journey of Cultural Liberation. This concept, rooted in the belief that everyone's cultural narratives and ways of knowing are equally valuable, is at the heart of our program. Cultural Liberation is not just about diversity and inclusion but about creating a space where everyone's cultural wisdom is seen as strategic intelligence, not a diversity checkbox. 

We're going beyond Psychological Safety and well-being to Psychological Capital Development and Psychological Liberation—a concept rooted in the groundbreaking work of Dr. Kim McLear. We're focusing on Cultural Liberation fueled by human and cultural equity and Reimagining Leadership Paradigms because it's time to dream bigger about what's possible when we lead from the wisdom and celebration of our multicultural heritage.

Cultural Liberation is not just about diversity and inclusion but about creating a space where everyone's cultural wisdom is seen as strategic intelligence, not a diversity checkbox. 

As Dr. Kim McLear, Founder of The Art of Civics Project | Humanity Amplified and advocate for designing futures where all can flourish, reminds us:

"We must do more than speak truth to power, we must use our power to transform ourselves and the systems that harm us. I knew then what I believe now, that we need a new framework for mental fortitude that is grounded in creativity, courage, and conscience. I frame this as Psychological Liberation."

As equity practitioners, we recognize the embedded assumptions within traditional leadership frameworks: whose voices matter, whose knowledge systems are valued, and what "professional excellence" and "thought leadership" look like. These paradigms weren't created with our genius in mind, but that doesn't mean we must accept them as unchangeable truths.

It's time to reclaim leadership through the lens of our integrated intelligence.

This Summer: A Journey of Leadership Transformation

We are working on something transformative at the Equity Institute, and we look forward to sharing it with you.

We're developing equity frameworks that work across all sectors, including corporate spaces, nonprofit organizations, creative and social impact spaces, and entrepreneurship. But we're dreaming bigger than frameworks. We're envisioning a complete reimagining of what leadership can be when it's rooted in cultural celebration and human equity.

It requires examining not just what we do as leaders but also how we've been conditioned to think about leadership itself and the creative courage to unlearn what no longer serves the future we're building.

This summer is centred on collaboration, emphasizing collective action and a shared vision.
